Tech Savvy 2010 Robotics Workshop

On March 13, 2010, working together with AAUW Buffalo Branch, The Automation, Robotics, & Mechatronics Laboratory hosted a Robotics Workshop for "Tech Savvy 5: Tapping into our Technological Future" for girls in grades 9 - 12 in the Western New York region on March 13, 2010. Approximate 36 students (in 3 sessions) attended our workshop entitled "Haptics: The Touchy-Feely Side of Robotics" this year (download PPT slides: here).

The workshop, consisting of presentations followed by 3 hands-on demos, allowing the students to explore use of different haptics devices, expose them to the multiple applications and even program sample motions of a mobile robot (a first programming experience for many of them).

Gifted Math Program March Symposium Highlights

As part of our ongoing outreach activities, Dr. Krovi presented "Mechanisms & Robots: Geometry in Motion" (in 2 sessions) to approximately 50 students of outstanding mathematics ability from 7-12 grades in the Western New York region, on March 10, 2010.

In this presentation (download the presentation: here), Dr. Krovi shows how mathematics knowledge can be useful to solve problems in mechanisms and robotics, and most importantly, how can one get started. The following video contains highlights of the program and presentation.

2009 ARMLAB/CSTEP Summer Robotics Workshop Highlights

This summer, working with CSTEP (The Collegiate Science and Technology Entry Program) and LSAMP (The University at Buffalo (UB) Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation), our lab hosted a 5-weeks Summer Robotics Workshop. Total of four students (Buay Nhial, Christopher Williams, Nercy Moreno, and Osaka Shepherd) choose to work in our lab. The workshop run from June 1, 2009 to July 9, 2009.

In this workshop (The website for the workshop is here), student learned to perform literature search, writing reports, as well as learning to use various computational tools (SolidWorks, MAPLE, MATLAB). The following video highlight some of the activities in the summer workshop.

2009 ARMLAB/CSTEP Summer Robotics Workshop - Poster Presentation

This summer, working with CSTEP (The Collegiate Science and Technology Entry Program) and LSAMP (The University at Buffalo (UB) Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation), our lab hosted a 5-weeks Summer Robotics Workshop. Four students worked in our lab. The workshop run from June 1, 2009 to July 9, 2009.

On July 15, Wednesday, students presented their research in the form of a poster at the Research Symposium & Award Luncheon, held at Center for Tomorrow (UB North Campus) from 11:00am - 2:00pm. Two of our students - Nercy Moreno and Christopher Williams, were selected as student representative to give their thought on the program in the Symposium.

The following is a video highlighting the poster presentation, speeches by Nercy and Christ, and award presentation to all our students:
